Kaju Price in Sri Lanka: Why It Varies and How to Compare
Why there's no single kaju price
Ask five shops for the price of kaju and you'll get five different answers, and they can all be honest ones. Kaju isn't one product. The price depends on what is actually in the pack, how it was processed, and how much of it you buy.
The big factors are whole nuts versus pieces, raw versus roasted, plain versus flavored, and pack size. Harvest conditions through the year nudge wholesale rates up and down on top of that.
Whole nuts cost more than pieces
Whole cashews are harder to get out of the shell intact, and they're what most people want for snacking and gifting, so they carry a higher price. Broken pieces and splits taste the same and usually cost less.
That makes pieces a sensible buy for cooking. Blended into a curry gravy or ground into cashew butter, nobody can tell whether the nut started out whole.
Raw, roasted and flavored
Raw cashews generally cost less than roasted ones, and flavored ones cost more again. Roasting adds time, fuel and hands-on attention, and flavoring adds ingredients. If you're curious what goes into it, here's how Sri Lankan cashews are roasted.
Compare per kilo, not per pack
A small pack always looks cheaper at a glance, but that's the wrong comparison. To compare fairly, convert everything to a price per kilo: multiply a 100g price by 10, a 250g price by 4, and a 500g price by 2. The cheapest-looking pack is often the most expensive kilo.
That's how our cashew price guide is laid out. Every item is shown per kilo, pulled live from the shop, so the numbers are always today's rather than a figure that was true when someone last updated a blog.
A very low price is worth a question
Sometimes a low price just means pieces instead of whole nuts, or raw instead of roasted. Sometimes it means older stock or a mix of grades. None of that is automatically bad, but it's worth asking what's actually in the bag before deciding it's a bargain.
Buying more than a pack or two
For an event, an office or a wedding, the per-kilo price is the number that matters. There's no minimum quantity on our bulk orders: tell us the quantity and the occasion and we'll quote you individually. For everyday buying, you can shop our cashews online any time.
